Pete the cat loves the buttons on his shirt so much that he makes up a song about them, and even as the buttons pop off, one by one, he still finds a reason to sing.

3. EARLY LITERACY TIP FOR PARENTS

 Building Resilience in Our Children

The Pre-Literacy Tip for Episode 11 is on helping our children to overcome disappointment, find  comfort and satisfaction in what does come our way and so, build resilience.  Life rarely gives us exactly what we think we want.  Growing into acceptance on what we do have is a milestone for anyone.
The saying, “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade” comes to mind. For example, when you bring your child to the library and Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons is what your child wants, but—Oh No—its checked out—How about trying another Pete the Cat book for now and place the one that was really wanted, on hold, to pick up a few days later?  Along the way, the librarian can also help you find other fun books on cats, dogs, unicorns, or dragons or whatever your heart desires.

Making lemonade out of lemons can also  help with learning the behavior called “delayed gratification. “ There is a lot in life to navigate for children.  What a blessing to have them re-open our eyes!

In Episode 11:  Cats,  thanks to Pete the Cat, we know that “Buttons come and buttons go” and if we make the best of what we have, then “happiness is  just around the corner.”
